Backyard Detectives/Planting

The animals from the Backyard Adventure big books were added to Dramatic play.




Above picture:Camping out mix
Fish(gold fish/Swedish fish Tree branches (pretzel sticks) Stones (chocolate chips)
Worms (gummy worms) Sleeping bags (Chex cereal) Bears (Teddy Grahams)
Ants (raisins) Pillows (mini marshmellows)
(used as a small group activity as a guessing game/picture naming)





Beans and seeds were added to the math center for children to count and sort




Stuffed animals were added to the block center for children to create habitats.





















Artificial leaves, sticks, twigs, etc. were added to the block area for children to create habitates for the stuffed animlas that were also put in this area.





















Bring the outside in! In this center real items that the teachers and children found outside were added to the Dramatic Play center.
























Colored copies of vegetable and fruit seed packets were attached to blocks. The teacher added books on how to create gardens to the block area for the children to create their own gardens.

With two chairs, a piece of yarn, clothespins and alphabet paper mittens, the children enjoyed matching the letters and pinning them on the line.
